Biography

Walter Farkas is a Professor of Quantitative Finance in the Department of Finance at the University of Zurich (UZH) and an Associate Faculty member of the Department of Mathematics at ETH Zurich. He is the program director for the Master of Science in Quantitative Finance, a joint degree offered by UZH and ETH, since 2003. Additionally, he serves on the Executive Education Board at the University of Zurich, heading the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Risk Management Banking Finance, and is the Director of the Teaching Center within the Department of Finance at UZH. Farkas has previously contributed as a board member and co-president of the Swiss Risk Association, a non-profit organization that promotes dialogue in risk management from 2013 to 2021. He has also held academic positions in Munich, Regensburg, Jena, Mainz, and Bucharest. His academic achievements include a Habilitation from Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, a Doctorate from Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena, and a Master of Science and Licence Diploma in Mathematics from the University of Bucharest.
