Biography

Erik Bengtsson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economic History at Lund University. He completed his PhD in 2013 and became a Docent in Economic History in 2019. His research primarily focuses on historical living standards, material culture, and wealth inequality, with a strong emphasis on European history during the seventeenth century. Bengtsson has led significant research projects funded by the Swedish Research Council, examining incomes in Sweden from 1870 to 1970 and the transformations in wage bargaining and economic policy in the Nordic countries from the 1960s onwards. Additionally, he is involved in projects analyzing Swedish democratization and agrarian politics from the late nineteenth to mid-twentieth century. Beyond his research activities, Bengtsson teaches various undergraduate courses and has contributions to numerous academic publications in the field of Economic History. He also engages in societal impact efforts related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
