Professor Dr. Erik Horstman

Biography

Erik Horstman is an Associate Professor at the University of Twente, where he specializes in Earth and Planetary Sciences, with a focus on mangrove ecosystems. He has a background in Civil Engineering and completed his PhD in 2014 at the University of Twente in collaboration with the National University of Singapore, investigating the biophysical interactions of mangrove forests in Thailand. His postdoctoral work at the University of Waikato in New Zealand further explored the sediment dynamics of mangroves. His research aims to develop accurate models for simulating long-term mangrove development, contributing to coastal stability and understanding sediment dynamics in these critical ecosystems. Horstman's work is characterized by extensive field data collection and analysis, facilitating insights into tidal flow routing and wave attenuation related to mangrove systems.
