Biography

Erik Lin-Greenberg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He co-directs the Security Studies Program (SSP) and the SSP Wargaming Lab. Lin-Greenberg's research focuses on how emerging military technologies impact conflict dynamics and the use of force. His book, Remote Revolution: Drones and Modern Statecraft, published by Cornell University Press, examines how remote warfare technologies are reshaping international politics. The book is based on his dissertation, which was recognized with the 2020 Merze Tate Award from the American Political Science Association for outstanding scholarship in international relations and law. His current research projects explore the influence of technology and public opinion on the decision-making processes regarding the use of force and alliance politics, as well as the role of food in international politics. His work has been featured in esteemed academic and policy outlets including the Journal of Politics, International Studies Quarterly, European Journal of International Relations, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Security Studies, Journal of Experimental Political Science, Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Policy. Lin-Greenberg has received support from organizations such as the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Fund for Strategic Innovation, the Eisenhower Institute, the Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy, and the Smith Richardson Foundation. He has held fellowships at Dartmouth's Dickey Center for International Understanding, the University of Pennsylvania's Perry World House, and Stanford University's Center for International Security Cooperation. Prior to his academic career, he served as an active-duty officer in the United States Air Force, commanding a squadron in the Air Force Reserve.
