Dr. Erik Lundström

Biography

Erik Lundström is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Medical Sciences, specializing in Neurology at Uppsala University. He serves as a Consultant in Neurology at Uppsala University Hospital and has been the clinical lead for the stroke unit since April 2018. In addition to his clinical role, he holds a Senior Lecturer position in the Department of Neuroscience at Uppsala University since July 2018, and he is the Chief Investigator of the EFFECTS trial, a significant randomized controlled trial on fluoxetine for stroke recovery published in Lancet Neurology. Lundström’s research interests include vision science and stroke research, focusing on the efficacy of fluoxetine in promoting recovery outcomes for stroke patients. He has an extensive teaching background, with over 400 hours of instruction in various medical programs. Lundström has contributed to advances in stroke treatment and recovery, overseeing multiple PhD students and collaborations across prominent research institutions. He holds an Associate Professorship in Neurology at both Uppsala University and Karolinska Institutet, and he completed his medical degree at Uppsala University. His ongoing research aims to investigate the cognitive impacts of spontaneous brain hemorrhage and the role of tranexamic acid in mitigating cognitive impairment post-stroke.
