Dr. Erik Peinert

Biography

Erik Peinert is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Boston University. His academic research centers on comparative political economy, international political economy, and business-state relations, with a specific focus on institutional change and policy-making in advanced industrial states. Peinert investigates how political economy influences economic policymaking, particularly in terms of market power and competition. His book project, titled 'Monopoly Politics: Price Competition, Learning, Evolution Policy Regimes,' is forthcoming with Oxford University Press and aims to understand the long-run national policy regimes that either enforce price competition or support market power for domestic monopolies. His work has been published in esteemed journals such as the Review of International Political Economy and World Politics, and he has contributed to various public writing platforms, including Promarket and American Affairs. Peinert earned his PhD in political science from Brown University in 2020 and has previous experience as a research manager at the American Economic Liberties Project, a think tank focused on antimonopoly policy. He has held research affiliations with institutions such as the Rhodes Center for International Finance at Brown University and the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History.
