Erik D. Storholm is a tenured Professor at the School of Public Health at San Diego State University. He is a licensed clinical psychologist whose research is dedicated to addressing health disparities among sexual and gender minority populations. His work focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating multilevel interventions aimed at improving mental health, reducing substance use, preventing violence, and reducing HIV/STI transmission among members of LGBTQ+ communities. His research explores the impact of stigma, minority stress, and the structural barriers to healthcare access faced by members of these populations. Currently, he is leading NIH-funded projects that investigate the socio-structural and behavioral factors influencing HIV/STI prevention uptake and adherence, as well as community-centered projects focused on implementing and evaluating tailored interventions to improve health outcomes. Prior to joining SDSU, he was a Behavioral Scientist at the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica and maintains an adjunct appointment as a core prevention scientist at UCLA’s Center for HIV Identification, Prevention, and Treatment Services (CHIPTS). In addition to his research, he is committed to mentoring the next generation of public health researchers.
