Biography

Erika M. Bsumek holds the Ellen Clarke Temple Chair in History at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Ph.D. in 2000 from Rutgers University. Dr. Bsumek specializes in Native American history, environmental history, digital history, and the history of the built environment in the U.S. West. Her notable publications include 'Indian-Made: Navajo Culture Marketplace, 1848-1960,' which won multiple awards, and she is the co-editor of 'Nation States and the Global Environment: New Approaches to International Environmental History.' Current research includes the socio-environmental history surrounding the Glen Canyon area and the impacts of large infrastructure projects in the American West. Dr. Bsumek has been actively involved in pedagogy as a Provost's Teaching Fellow and has received numerous awards, including the UT System Regents' Distinguished Teaching Professor. She has also created innovative digital tools such as ClioVis, a platform for digital timelines and network mapping in academic research.
