Biography

Erika Chamberlain has been a distinguished member of Western Law since 2005, having served in various leadership roles, including as Dean from 2017 to 2024 and as Associate Dean (Academic). She graduated with a gold medal from Western Law in 2001, where she also completed her LLB (Distinction). Following her graduation, she worked as a law clerk for Mr. Justice Major at the Supreme Court of Canada and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002. Chamberlain obtained her PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2009, where she was awarded a Cambridge Commonwealth Scholarship and held the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship and WM Tapp Studentship at Gonville and Caius College. An accomplished author, she has published extensively in the field of tort law, with a particular focus on tort liability and public authorities. Her works include 'Misfeasance in Public Office' and co-authorship of 'Fridman’s Law of Torts Canada.' In addition to her academic contributions, she has provided research advocacy for MADD Canada and currently serves as Chair of its National Board of Directors. Chamberlain's scholarship has significantly influenced Canadian tort law, evidenced by citations in Supreme Court cases and legislative amendments across federal and provincial jurisdictions.
