Dr. Erika Kartschoke

Biography

Erika Kartschoke is a distinguished scholar specializing in Older German Literature and Language. She studied Germanic Studies, English Studies, and Musicology in Vienna, culminating in her doctorate in 1961. Kartschoke's academic career includes positions as a lecturer at Bryn Mawr College and as an assistant in various universities, including Heidelberg and Free University of Berlin. She has been a full professor at the Free University of Berlin since 1969. Her research interests focus on dialectology and name studies, with her dissertation addressing these themes. Kartschoke has led significant research projects, including one on depictions of love, marriage, and family in literature from the 15th and 16th centuries.
