Biography

Érika Melek Delgado is a lecturer in the Department of History at King's College London, with research publications focusing on the history of empires, African history, and diaspora within the context of digital humanities. As the Principal Investigator for the Historical African Childhoods (HAC) project and Co-Director of Freedom Narratives, she engages in collaborative initiatives utilizing digital humanities to explore historical connections of enslaved descendants in the Caribbean and Africa. Érika has a strong background in leading projects such as the British Library's Endangered Archive Program, aimed at digitizing endangered documents from Cuba in partnership with the University of Havana. With previous roles, including being a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow and a two-year Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on Africa and the Diasporas at York University, Canada, she has earned scholarly recognition as well as fellowships from the Leverhulme Trust and the British Academy. Her academic qualifications include a PhD in History from the University of Worcester and an MPhil in Comparative History from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her teaching spans modern history, empire, and the diaspora of West Africa, emphasizing digital humanities public projects.
