Biography

Erika Ono is an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Social Work, where she is also involved in the Clinical Instructor Child Adolescent Psychiatry Subspeciality Residency Training Program in the Department of Psychiatry. With a focus on gender-based violence, trauma therapy, perinatal substance use, adult mental health, and neurodiverse child and youth mental health, her research and clinical work is rooted in decolonial, intersectional, feminist, critical race, and critical disability theories. Erika employs institutional ethnography, critical ethnography, and community-based participatory action research methods in her work. She has contributed to various research excellence clusters and currently serves as a co-investigator on projects aimed at improving health outcomes for families and children experiencing mental health challenges. Her scholarly work includes publications addressing effectiveness in health-care initiatives, mental health service gaps for children, and the implications of legal constructs in social work practice.
