Biography

Erika Weinthal is the John O. Blackburn Distinguished Professor at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, where she also serves as Director of Graduate Studies for the Environmental Policy program. With a Ph.D. from Columbia University, her research specializes in global environmental politics and environmental security, with a particular focus on water and energy. Her work encompasses a range of areas including governance of global environmental politics, environmental conflict and peacebuilding, the political economy of the resource curse, climate change adaptation, and transitions in global energy. Weinthal is the author of 'State Making Environmental Cooperation: Linking Domestic Politics and International Politics in Central Asia' and has received various recognitions including the Chadwick Alger Prize and the Lynton Keith Caldwell Prize. She has co-authored and co-edited several significant publications, contributing to the understanding of environmental issues in the context of wartime and post-conflict settings. Weinthal is a founding Vice President of the Environmental Peacebuilding Association and has been recognized with awards such as the Women Peacebuilders Water Award in 2017. Her expertise and scholarship greatly contribute to the dialogues surrounding water, conflict, and policy in a changing climate.
