Biography

Erin Akerman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at Brock University. She specializes in Indigenous and Canadian literatures, as well as nineteenth-century British literary studies. Akerman is a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario and a member of the Georgian Bay Métis Community. Her research interests focus on the intersection of Indigenous, Canadian, and nineteenth-century literary studies, with particular attention to Indigenous literary expressions and their relationship to land. She is also interested in Indigenous feminisms and the archival recovery of nineteenth-century Indigenous writers. Akerman's notable publication includes the article 'At Crossroads Sympathy Prophecy: Anna Jameson, Winter Studies and Summer Rambles Canada, Drummond Island Métis' in Canadian Literature.
