Biography

Erin Baggott Carter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Southern California. She is also a Hoover Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution and a non-resident scholar at the UCSD 21st Century China Center. Before her current positions, Erin held fellowships at Stanford’s Center for Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law and the Center for International Security Cooperation. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard University. Dr. Carter’s research primarily focuses on Chinese politics and propaganda. Her forthcoming book, titled 'Propaganda in Autocracies,' examines the role and impact of propaganda in authoritarian regimes. Through her work, Erin aims to shed light on the complexities of governance and communication in China and how these elements play a significant role in shaping public opinion and policy.
