Erin Brantmayer received her B.A. in History from West Virginia University in 2015, followed by an M.A. in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies from Brandeis University in 2018. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at The University of Texas at Austin's Classics Department, expected to graduate in 2021. Her research focuses on the engagement of peripheral communities in religious practices during the early Roman Empire and the Bronze Age in Greece. Erin's previous work includes research in the Negev Desert of Southern Levant, where she analyzed mobile groups and their use of desert resources, such as food and water. Her current research involves the southern Pontic Steppe region, employing GIS and archaeological science to investigate Greek colonization and ecological exploitation in wetland environments of the Aegean and Black Sea regions. She has excavated in multiple locations including the Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Palestine, Sicily, and various sites in Turkey and Romania. Erin teaches courses like Alexander/Hellenistic World and First-Year Latin and incorporates her research interests into her teaching methods.
