Biography

Erin Connelly is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow and Assistant Professor at the University of Warwick. Her research primarily focuses on ethnopharmacology and antimicrobial efficacy, delving into the historical and traditional medicinal sources contained within medieval manuscripts. Connelly employs quantitative analyses of historical recipes found in surviving medical texts, complemented by empirical tests of antimicrobial activity on whole remedies inspired by these historical combinations. Utilizing network analysis tools, she explores medieval medical texts to identify potentially effective ingredient combinations from a modern medicinal perspective. In addition to her RA Fellowship, she has been involved in digitization projects and interdisciplinary collaborations for analyzing medieval manuscripts through advanced imaging techniques. Connelly aims to develop new antimicrobial therapeutics in response to the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
