Biography

Erin Longbrake is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in neuro-immune diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica, and autoimmune encephalitis. She graduated summa cum laude from Cedarville University and obtained her combined MD/PhD degrees from Ohio State University, where her dissertation focused on neuro-immune responses in traumatic spinal cord injuries. After completing her neurology residency at Washington University in St. Louis, she served as a Sylvia Lawry Fellow with the National MS Society, contributing to clinical trials aimed at understanding the effectiveness of modern MS disease-modifying treatments. Since joining the Yale faculty in 2016, she has taken on roles including Director of Clinical Research in Neuroimmunology and Program Director for the Neuroimmunology Fellowship. Her research is concentrated on personalizing management strategies for MS patients by detecting the earliest physiological signs of damage before clinical symptoms manifest. Longbrake is also involved in designing and implementing numerous clinical trials and has co-authored various publications, significantly impacting the field of neuroimmunology. Her research interests include autoimmune diseases of the nervous system, genetics, immunology, microbiome interactions, and progressive MS treatments.
