Professor McBride currently directs both the Government and Legislative Clinic and the Native Nations Externship Program at the law school and teaches the regulatory state and legislative procedure. The programs provide students a unique opportunity to observe and participate in facets of governmental law, policy, legislation, and tribal governance. Before joining the Law School faculty, McBride was Managing Attorney at ABC Health, a non-profit public interest law firm dedicated to representing families of children in accessing health care coverage. There, she engaged in direct legal advocacy and litigation on behalf of clients, taking federal ERISA cases to the Supreme Court of the United States. She lobbied on behalf of children with special health care needs and negotiated with federal, state, and private benefits insurance institutions. Prior to ABC Health, she served as Managing Attorney at Wisconsin Judicare, Inc., representing victims of violent crime in partnership with the Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women, and she testified at the United Nations North American Consultation on Adequate Housing. In addition, McBride co-founded the free legal clinic/coffeehouse, “Legal Grounds Wisconsin®.” She has been recognized by the State Bar of Wisconsin for her exemplary commitment to the community. McBride received her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she was the Note and Comment Editor for the Iowa Law Review, and holds a B.A. in Chemistry and Architecture from Bryn Mawr College.
