Biography

Professor Erin Nelson teaches Tort Law, Health Care Ethics Law, and Law & Medicine. She is a fellow member of the Advisory Board of the Health Law Institute. Professor Nelson obtained her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta in 1991 and completed her Bachelor of Laws in 1995 also at the University of Alberta. She clerked for Mr. Justice John Sopinka at the Supreme Court of Canada, and afterward completed articles at Witten Binder in Edmonton. Before her graduate studies at Columbia University, she spent several years as a Project Manager at the Health Law Institute within the Faculty of Law. Her teaching focuses on the implications of law in health care, covering subjects that intersect law with medicine, ethics, and public policy, particularly in relation to women's health and reproductive rights.
