Dr. Erina Harris

Biography

Erina Harris is an Assistant Lecturer in Creative Writing and Literature in the Department of English & Film Studies at the University of Alberta. She holds a PhD in English Creative Writing from the University of Calgary and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. Erina's teaching philosophy emphasizes anti-discriminatory pedagogy and the importance of creating inclusive classroom communities that respect diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives. She has developed unique syllabi that engage students with literary works from BIPOC, disabled, LGBTQ2S+ writers, and incorporates multilingual texts. Erina has received several accolades for her innovative instructional methods, including awards from her current and previous institutions. Her research interests include social poetics, de-colonial pedagogy, and the intersection of creativity and ecological ethics. Erina has published works in various literary forms, including poetry and creative non-fiction, gaining recognition across North America and Europe. She is also involved in editing and mentoring emerging writers, supporting their literary journeys through workshops and collaborative projects.
