Biography

Ernesto Amaral's research relates to social demography, migration, and public policy analysis. His teaching interests encompass demography, migration, methods of social statistics, and public policy analysis. Prior to joining Texas A&M University, he served as an associate sociologist at RAND Corporation and a professor at Pardee RAND Graduate School from 2014 to 2017. He was an assistant professor in the Political Science Department at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil from 2009 to 2014. He received his Ph.D. in sociology with a concentration in demography from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007, a master’s degree in demography from UFMG in 2002, and a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), Brazil, in 2000.
