Biography

Professor Erniel Bayhon Barrios specializes in computational statistics and econometrics, with a focus on nonparametric methods and big data analytics. He has held positions as a visiting professor at Karlstad University in Sweden and a visiting researcher at the Asian Development Bank Institute in Japan. His research interests encompass a variety of areas including spatiotemporal modeling, time series models, and financial markets. He serves as an associate editor for the 'Communications in Statistical Applications and Methods' journal. An elected member of the International Statistical Institute since 2012, Barrios is also a full member of the Philippine American Academy of Science and Engineering, and an active member of the Econometric Society, East Asian Economic Association, and Philippine Statistical Association. His academic contributions include various awards, and he is currently engaged in projects aimed at building data-driven organizations and enhancing mental health survey methodologies. Barrios holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of the Philippines, where he completed his dissertation on Semiparametric Regression Models. His work continues to focus on addressing global challenges in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
