Dr. Ernst Homburg

Biography

Ernst Homburg is a professor at Maastricht University specializing in the history of science and technology. He completed his studies in chemistry at the Free University of Amsterdam and obtained his M.Sc. in Science & Society in 1978. He later earned his doctorate in history from the University of Nijmegen with a dissertation focusing on the rise of the industrial chemist in Germany between 1790 and 1850. Homburg is known for his editorial work, including his contribution to the eight-volume 'New Dictionary of Scientific Biography' and his own books on the history of major European fertilizer companies and the historical development of a Belgian family firm. He has held various academic positions and has been actively involved in numerous research projects, committees, and editorial boards related to the history of chemistry and technology.
