Dr. Ernst Homburg

Biography

Ernst Homburg is a professor of History of Science and Technology at Maastricht University. He graduated in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Science & Society from the Free University and the Municipal University of Amsterdam. He holds a Doctorate in History from the University of Nijmegen, with a dissertation on the rise of the German chemical profession from 1790 to 1850. Homburg has contributed significantly to the historical understanding of the chemical industry in Europe, including his recent works on fertilizer companies and multinational firms in chemistry. He has held various academic positions, focusing on the intertwining of chemistry with societal developments. Throughout his career, he has actively engaged in numerous professional services, co-organizing conferences and serving on editorial boards and councils related to the history of science. Homburg's research interests also encompass the impacts of industrialization and globalization on the field of chemistry, aiming to illuminate the historical narratives within this domain.
