Dr. Ernst Willheim

Biography

Ernst Willheim is a Visiting Fellow who previously worked with the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department, where he headed policy divisions and led Australian delegations at international conferences. He has appeared as counsel in the Commonwealth High Court and appellate courts. At the university, he undertakes research in public law, particularly focusing on native title, racial discrimination, administrative law, judicial accountability, constitutional law, international law, sovereign immunity, and the rights of refugees. Willheim has published widely in the fields of constitutional law, administrative law, international law, and environmental law with respect to Aboriginal issues. His engagement extends to making submissions before Parliamentary Committees, participating in various media interviews, and providing pro bono legal counsel. Furthermore, he has successfully prepared complaints to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on behalf of Aboriginal Australians.
