Biography

Erwin Schurr is a distinguished James McGill Professor in Human Genetics at McGill University. He served as the Associate Director of the McGill Centre Study of Host Resistance from 2000 to 2012 and directed the CIHR Strategic Training Centre from 2001 to 2008. His main research focuses on human genetics and functional genomics related to mycobacterial diseases, specifically leprosy and tuberculosis. His general research objective is to achieve a detailed understanding of the disease pathogenesis associated with mycobacterial diseases and to harness this mechanistic understanding for effective disease control and prevention. Current research endeavors include functional genomics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in individuals living with HIV and the genetic epidemiology of functional genomics in inflammation checkpoint genes related to Parkinson's disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and leprosy.
