Biography

Esme Caramello is a Clinical Professor at Harvard Law School and the Faculty Director of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. Her teaching and research focus on housing law policy, legal ethics, racial justice, and equal access to civil justice. Caramello has served as a member of the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission and co-chair of its housing committee during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was appointed as the Reporter for the Uniform Law Commission's Study Committee on Tenant Information in Rental Decisions and contributed to the development and passage of Massachusetts' eviction sealing law in 2024. In addition to her academic role, Caramello has extensive experience in clinical teaching and legal practice, having previously worked at WilmerHale Legal Services and Suffolk University Law School. She holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in Social Anthropology from Harvard-Radcliffe College. Caramello is recognized as one of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s Top Women in Law for her contributions to the field and her advocacy work in improving civil rights and liberties.
