Biography

Esme Fuller-Thomson is the Director of the Institute of Life Course and Aging at the University of Toronto since 2016. She is a full professor with cross-appointments in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Faculty of Nursing, having joined the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work in 1995. Dr. Fuller-Thomson has published over 180 peer-reviewed articles focusing on the long-term health impacts of adverse childhood experiences, grandparents raising grandchildren, social determinants of disability in older adults, immigrants’ health, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Her work has been published in prestigious journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and the American Journal of Public Health. Dr. Fuller-Thomson's research on disability and poverty was notably featured in a Time Magazine cover story. She held the Sandra Rotman Endowed Chair in Social Work from 2009 to 2019 and served as an Assistant Professor from 1995 to 2002.
