Professor Dr. Estanislao Gavilan Pascual Ahuir

Biography

Estanislao Gavilan Pascual-Ahuir is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Oceanography at the University of Edinburgh. He utilizes numerical models to investigate circulation patterns in the Arctic Ocean and subpolar regions, focusing on potential near-future climate conditions. His work with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology general circulation model (MITgcm) is concentrated on understanding the roles of buoyancy, topography, wind stress, and boundary forcing in shaping the dynamics of the Arctic basin. Furthermore, he assesses how these factors influence the evolving responses to sea-ice decline. Currently, his research explores potential tipping points within the Subpolar Gyre using the UK Earth System Model (UKESM). His research article on this subject was published in Global Change on July 1, 2024.
