Dr. Esteban Tabak

Biography

Esteban G. Tabak is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at New York University. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1992, and holds a degree in Hydraulic Engineering from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, completed in 1988. His research interests span applied mathematics, fluid dynamics, and data science optimization. He has contributed significantly to the field of fluid dynamics, particularly in physical numerical modeling of large-scale flows that enhance our understanding of atmospheric and ocean dynamics. Recently, he has developed new tools for density estimation and optimal transport to address general problems in classification, regression, clustering, and time-series analysis. Moreover, in the domain of optimization, he has created a new general methodology for solving constrained optimization problems, which includes both continuous and discrete scenarios as well as dynamical two-person game strategies represented by primal-dual variables.
