Biography

Estelle Joubert is a Professor in the Fountain School of Performing Arts at Dalhousie University specializing in Musicology with a cross-appointment in European Studies. She received her Doctorate from the University of Oxford where she was a Clarendon scholar. Joubert's research interests include global music history during the early modern period, particularly the musics of Southern Africa, as well as computational musicology, including graph databases and network visualization. Additionally, she focuses on early modern opera studies. Her forthcoming book, "German Opera Enlightenment Philosophy: Politics Sensation," will be published by Cambridge University Press. She has co-edited a volume, "Cultural History of Western Music in the Age of Enlightenment," which was published by Bloomsbury in 2023. Joubert has presented over 60 conference papers and delivered keynote addresses at various international events. She has received numerous teaching awards and held several leadership roles within Dalhousie, including Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Her extensive body of work includes critical studies on opera and music in the Enlightenment, emphasizing the intersection of music with cultural and political history.
