Biography

Esther Kluwer obtained her PhD from the University of Groningen in 1998, with a dissertation titled 'Marital Conflict Division Labor: Partners Become Parents'. She initially worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Social Psychology at the Free University of Amsterdam. In 2000, she joined Utrecht University as an associate professor in the Department of Social, Health & Organisational Psychology. In 2016, Kluwer was appointed as a professor of special appointment at Radboud University, focusing on Relationships and Wellbeing. Her research primarily investigates close relationships, emphasizing the determinants and effects of relationship quality. A central question of her work focuses on how both partners and ex-partners maintain relationships under stressful circumstances and how these dynamics impact the wellbeing of their children. Her research spans various topics, including the effects of COVID-19 stress, autonomy, relatedness, the transition to parenthood, work-family balance, high-conflict divorce, forgiveness, and relationship interventions.
