Biography

Esther Papies is a Professor at the Behavioural Science Institute at Radboud University. She holds a PhD from Utrecht University, received in 2008, and has experience as both an Assistant and Associate Professor, most recently at the University of Glasgow for 9 years before joining Radboud University as a Full Professor in 2024. Her research focuses on behavior change, especially in the domains of health and sustainability. She investigates the psychological processes that encourage transitions to healthier and more sustainable lifestyles. Her work has explored topics such as motivations and barriers to dietary change, emotional experiences related to climate change, and the promotion of climate action. Papies regularly teaches courses on psychology related to behavior change and climate change. Additionally, she supervises PhD students and postdoctoral researchers and has been funded by various institutions, including the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
