Biography

Esther Weltevrede is an Associate Professor at the University of Amsterdam's Department of Media Studies. Her research examines the affordances of digital media, with a particular focus on conceptual and methodological advancements in studying mobile applications, platforms, and market dynamics. Her work has been published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals including Theory, Culture & Society, Journal of Cultural Economy, New Media & Society, Computational Culture, Platform & Society, and Big Data & Society. Esther is a founding member and co-director of the App Studies Initiative and co-coordinates the Digital Methods Initiative. She also contributes to the Verification research group at the Public Data Lab and serves on the steering committee of the cross-faculty Digital Citizenship research program at the university. Her project on Apps Data Infrastructures has received support from a research grant by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
