Dr. Eswar Prasad

Biography

Eswar Prasad is the Nandlal P. Tolani Senior Professor of Trade Policy at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University. He is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and holds the New Century Chair in International Economics. Prasad is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His previous roles include chief of the Financial Studies Division and head of the China division at the International Monetary Fund. Prasad's research covers a wide range of topics, including labor economics, business cycles, and open economy macroeconomics. He has an extensive publication record with numerous articles in top academic journals, as well as co-authored and edited books on financial globalization, China, and India. His current research interests include the interplay between macroeconomics and globalization, particularly the growth volatility relationship in the Chinese and Indian economies. Prasad has contributed op-ed articles to prestigious publications such as the Financial Times, Harvard Business Review, International Herald Tribune, New York Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post, and has testified before U.S. congressional committees on several occasions. He earned his PhD in economics from the University of Chicago in 1992.
