Biography

Eswar Prasad is the Tolani Senior Professor of Trade Policy at Cornell University. He previously served as the Chief of the Financial Studies Division in the IMF's Research Department and was the head of the IMF's China Division. With a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, his research spans a number of areas including labor economics, business cycles, and open economy macroeconomics. He has an extensive publication record that includes articles in numerous collective volumes and top academic journals, as well as co-authored and edited books and monographs on financial globalization, as well as the economies of China and India. His current research interests focus on macroeconomics and globalization, exploring the relationship between growth and volatility in the Chinese and Indian economies. His research papers have been cited extensively in the international press, and he has contributed op-ed articles to prominent media outlets such as the Financial International Herald Tribune and the Wall Street Journal Asia. Furthermore, he has testified before the Senate Finance Committee and the House Representatives Committee on Financial Services regarding issues pertaining to China, with his research being cited in the U.S. Congressional Record.
