Eszter Posfai started as an Assistant Professor of Molecular Biology at Princeton University in January 2019. Her laboratory focuses on understanding mammalian preimplantation embryo formation using quantitative approaches. Originally from Szeged, Hungary, she received her MSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Szeged and completed her PhD in Genetics at the Friedrich Miescher Institute in Basel, Switzerland. Her PhD research investigated the role of epigenetic mechanisms in the germ line and how they impact development across generations. During her postdoctoral work in the lab of Dr. Janet Rossant at SickKids Research Institute in Toronto, she explored the earliest cell fate decisions made by mouse embryos and co-developed new genetic tools for querying these processes at single-cell resolution. She is particularly interested in the mechanobiology and biophysics of early embryonic development and aims to identify the minimal gene regulatory networks responsible for cellular diversity during embryonic patterning.
