Biography

Dr. Hay’s research employs computational models of cortical circuits to investigate the cellular mechanisms underlying cortical processing in health and disease. He is currently examining inhibitory connections in cortical circuits concerning depression and schizophrenia. His work involves developing models of human cortical circuits, leveraging unique data from CAMH and Toronto Western Hospital, to explore how altered inhibition affects cortical processing and oscillatory activity across cortical layers. Furthermore, Dr. Hay simulates electrode probes to identify signatures of cellular effects relevant to brain electroencephalography signals. He is also engaged in using computational platforms to investigate the in silico effects of candidate pharmacological treatments for depression, utilizing both human and rodent circuit models. His research synthesizes unique human data to enhance the understanding of cellular circuit mechanisms involved in brain disorders, ultimately improving diagnostic capabilities using brain recordings and facilitating the translation of candidate therapeutics.
