Dr. Ethan Balk

Biography

Ethan Balk is a Professor in Health Services and Policy Practice at Brown University. He is the co-Director of the AHRQ-sponsored Brown Evidence-based Practice Center and the Associate Director of the Center for Evidence Synthesis in Health. With extensive experience as a primary care physician, he pursued a Masters in Public Health with a focus on Biostatistics and Epidemiology, fostering a career in systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and clinical guideline development. Balk has 14 years of experience as the Associate Director of the Tufts Evidence-based Practice Center and directed the Tufts Center for Clinical Evidence Synthesis. He has contributed significantly to the National Kidney Foundation's guideline development initiatives and has acted as a methodological expert for the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons. Balk has authored over 250 publications on systematic reviews covering a broad range of medical, surgical, and health-related topics. His research primarily focuses on conducting systematic reviews and providing methodological guidance for various national and international clinical practice guideline organizations, with funding from notable agencies such as AHRQ and the WHO.
