Dr. Etienne Augé

Biography

Etienne F. Augé is a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Media and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He received his doctorate from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris and a Master's in Film Studies from Sorbonne Paris III. His academic background includes studying political science at the Institut d'Études Politiques de Grenoble, film studies at the University of California at Irvine, and cultural studies at The London Consortium, Birkbeck College, University of London. With over ten years of teaching experience at universities in Austria, the Czech Republic, Lebanon, and Slovakia, he has also participated in the Summer Program in Media Studies at Oxford University in 2016. Augé has authored several books focusing on propaganda, including 'Petit traité de propagande' (2007, edition 2015) and 'L'illusion culturelle: Hollywood et la propagande 1990-2000' (2011). His research interests span propaganda, public relations, cultural diplomacy, film studies, and Middle Eastern studies. In 2015, he founded the Community Histories Future (CHIFT), a platform dedicated to the study and promotion of science fiction, and has delivered talks throughout Europe. Augé has received various nominations and awards for his teaching, notably 'Best Male Lecturer' in 2012 and 'Most Inspiring Course' in 2017-2018. He also serves as a consultant in communication and branding strategies.
