Étienne Caron completed his PhD in the laboratory of Claude Perreault at the University of Montreal. By combining mass spectrometry and computational biology with a solid background in fundamental immunology, he elucidated new mechanisms regulating antigen presentation by MHC molecules. His doctoral work, supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Quebec Health Research Fund, led to the publication of ten articles. Subsequently, Étienne pursued postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Luis Serrano in Spain, an expert in cancer systems biology, and in the laboratory of Ruedi Aebersold in Switzerland, a world leader and pioneer in proteomics and mass spectrometry. He developed expertise in new mass spectrometry approaches to study the complexity of the human immunopeptidome and became a global leader in the creation and presidency of the Human Immuno-Peptidome Project, an international initiative uniting global leaders in mass spectrometry and immunology. His work resulted in the publication of 14 articles in high-impact journals. Supported by prestigious European fellowships, Étienne's postdoctoral work forms the foundation of his current research program, which aims to significantly impact cancer immunotherapy through innovative mass spectrometry approaches to study the proteome and immunopeptidome of cancer and immune cells in various cancers, particularly melanoma and acute myeloid leukemia.
