Dr. Etienne Leveille Bourret

Biography

Etienne Léveillé-Bourret is an Assistant Professor at the University of Montreal's Department of Biological Sciences. His research primarily focuses on the discovery and classification of plant biodiversity in temperate, boreal, and arctic-alpine environments. His studies encompass a variety of subjects, including the description of new species, biogeography, phylogenomics, and the co-evolution between plants and fungal parasites. Much of Etienne's work centers on the Cyperaceae family, one of the most diversified plant lineages in northern ecosystems, but he occasionally investigates other plant families as well. He employs a range of approaches including molecular phylogenetics, genomic data analysis, and traditional methods based on morphology, anatomy, and embryology. His research also involves field studies of living plants and the examination of preserved natural history specimens in herbaria, underscoring the integrative nature of his academic pursuits.
