Biography

Etienne Masle-Farquhar is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and a principal investigator at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney. His research focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving major forms of arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis. His team collaborates with over ten hospitals in Australia to collect data on autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Etienne's academic journey began at the Australian National University (ANU) where he graduated with first-class honors before completing his PhD at UNSW, recipient of the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Thesis for his research on shared genetic mechanisms in autoimmune diseases and hematological malignancies. He has also completed postdoctoral training focusing on immune diseases and has garnered numerous grants for his innovative studies. Etienne is committed to exploring new biologic therapies for treating arthritic conditions and mentoring the next generation of researchers. His lab is well-funded and he is actively engaged in the academic community, presenting at international conferences and supervising students in their research endeavors.
