Biography

Euan McGookin graduated from the University of Glasgow with a First Class Honours Master of Engineering in Avionics. His research interest in marine control systems began with his MEng project at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, where he developed a thesis on 'Sliding Mode Control Submarine'. He continued his research in this area during his Ph.D. studies, which he completed in 1997 with a thesis on 'Optimisation Sliding Mode Controllers for Marine Applications'. Dr. McGookin has extensive experience as a propulsion technologist at the Defence Evaluation Research Agency in the UK and has worked on various projects related to Gas Turbine Engine control and health monitoring. He returned to academia as a lecturer in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering and later became a senior lecturer in aerospace and robotic systems at the Department of Aerospace Engineering. Dr. McGookin’s key research interests include the design, simulation, and control of autonomous robotic systems, particularly Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, with a focus on biomimetic systems and control methodologies.
