Biography

Eugenio Biagini is a professor of Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Cambridge. He completed his education at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and joined Cambridge in 1985 as a Junior Research Fellow at Churchill College, later serving as an Assistant Professor of Modern British History at Princeton University. He returned to Cambridge as a College Lecturer and progressed to University Lecturer, Reader, and then to his current position as a professor in 2011. His research centers on the social, economic, and political history of democracy, with a focus on Gladstonian liberalism, the Italian Risorgimento, and Irish nationalism. He has published works examining the impact of Irish Home Rule campaigns on democracy islands and is currently editing a volume on the social history of Ireland from 1740. His recent research interests include the histories of religious and ethnic minorities in twentieth-century Ireland and the challenges of nation-building in deeply divided societies.
