Dr. Eun Sil Hwang

Biography

Eun-Sil Shelley Hwang is a distinguished professor and the Vice-Chair of Research in the Department of Surgery at Duke University. She holds a pivotal role as a professor of Surgery and Radiology, with dual memberships in the Duke Cancer Institute and the Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy. Her extensive education includes an M.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an M.P.H. from the University of California, Berkeley. Previously, she served as a Surgeon-in-Chief and held several academic leadership positions at the University of California San Francisco, where she focused on breast surgical oncology. Dr. Hwang's research interests revolve around breast cancer, particularly in exploring non-surgical treatment alternatives and improving surgical decision-making through technological advancements. She is recognized in her field, having been named among TIME’s 100 Influential People in 2016.
