Dr. Eva Corina Caragounis

Biography

Eva-Corina Caragounis is an Associate Professor in Surgery at the University of Gothenburg and a Senior Consultant at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital's Department of Emergency and Trauma Surgery. Her current research focuses on defining chest wall injuries, their healing processes, and surgical indications and techniques, as well as conducting long-term follow-ups. She has been actively involved in the international Chest Wall Injury Society (CWIS) and has participated in multi-center studies aimed at developing treatment guidelines. Her research interests also extend to the development of trauma organization and the use of artificial intelligence in decision-making regarding patient transport and destination. A notable project includes her work on the Scene Injury Severity Prediction (OSISP) model, a clinical decision support system designed to enhance prehospital trauma triage. She has contributed to several research articles in esteemed journals regarding surgical practices and clinical outcomes in trauma care, expanding the knowledge base in her specialized field.
