Dr. Eva Lotta Funkquist

Biography

Eva-Lotta Funkquist is an Associate Professor and Pediatric Nurse Midwife at Uppsala University, where she is responsible for the Specialist Nursing Program focused on pediatric healthcare. She works clinically at the maternity ward of Akademiska Hospital and teaches courses on Breastfeeding and Breast Milk in the Nursing Program. Her research primarily revolves around breastfeeding, infant sleep, and parental well-being. Funkquist leads the Breastfeeding Study at Uppsala University, which aims to improve breastfeeding support throughout the healthcare system, including maternity clinics and child healthcare services. This project is grounded in scientific frameworks such as attachment and self-efficacy theories and involves staff training, improved care routines, and the development of informational materials for parents. To date, the project has seen four doctoral students complete their dissertations, with current doctoral students actively engaged in the study across regions including Uppsala, Sörmland, and Gävleborg.
