Dr. Eva Haverkamp Rott

Biography

Eva Haverkamp-Rott is a professor of Medieval Jewish History and Culture at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. She has held this position since 2009 within the Department of Jewish History and Culture, focusing on the medieval period. Her work provides a unique opportunity in Germany for students to explore Jewish history in depth within a regular history program. Through her courses on Medieval Jewish History, students meet the requirements for studying Medieval History, covering the political, social, economic, religious, and cultural aspects of Jewish life, as well as the interactions between Jews and Christians, pagans, and Muslims. The focus of her teaching spans from the 4th to the 16th centuries, geographically ranging from India to Portugal, with an emphasis on the Holy Roman Empire, Italy, France, England, and the Byzantine Empire. This curriculum offers in-depth insights into the relationships between Jews and adherents of other religions during the medieval period.
